Abstract of the site:

Thurning Instruments Ltd. is based in the South West of England.

Thurning Instruments Ltd. offers consultancy and design services in the fields of electronics, measurement and advanced process control. We specialise in very low noise analogue and mixed signal electronics. We also offer competitive rates for general electronic design: power supplies, low-power (<100 m A) designs to run on batteries, hardware and firmware for microprocessor based systems (e.g.: PIC, SAB 80C166/C167, ST10 and 8051/2) and logic using FPGAs (XILINX).

The company manufactures radiation detectors which are used for radiometric (or nucleonic) measurement. Typical applications are X-ray or gamma densitometers and X-ray gauges for measuring thickness. Gamma densitometers are widely used in several industries: for straight forward process measurement of density or concentration, or for detecting flaws in solid products. A gamma densitometer can also be combined with other sensors to give a very accurate mass flow measurement for two-phase or multi-phase flows. Gamma and X-ray gauging are widely used for measuring the thickness of metal in strip rolling mills and in other industries that produce "web" products.

A densitometer or thickness gauge using a Thurning RMS1000 or RMS2000 detector is capable of outstanding resolution with a very fast response time. They are used in the most demanding processes such as measuring the density of high-velocity multi-phase flow, and gauging web products that are moving at 100 km/h or faster.
